Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Acetate is built to keep your music on your machine. Your audio files are never uploaded to us or anyone else - all mastering runs locally. This policy explains the small amount of data that does leave your device, always for a specific purpose you can see.

Your audio never leaves your device

Analysis and mastering happen entirely in a local process on your computer. Acetate does not upload, stream, or store your audio files, and has no account system or cloud storage. There is no analytics or tracking SDK in the app.

License activation

When you activate a license, Acetate contacts our payment reseller Polar to verify your license key. This sends your license key and an anonymous device label (a short code derived from your machine, not your name or hostname) so we can enforce the device limit. Your name and email associated with the purchase are held by Polar as the merchant of record, under Polar's privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details.

Feedback form (optional)

During the beta, after your first export the app shows a short feedback form. If you choose to submit it, we receive what you type - genre, what worked, what didn't - and, if you provide one, your email so we can follow up. It is never sent automatically; leaving it blank sends nothing.

Crash reports (optional)

If the audio engine crashes or stalls, Acetate offers to send a diagnostic report. If you choose to send it, it includes the app version, your operating system, and a short technical log. It does not include your audio, and file names in the log are redacted. You may add a note and an email; both are optional. Nothing is sent unless you press send.

Update checks

The app periodically checks a file on acetate.lol to see whether a new version is available. This is a simple download and does not send us personal information; standard web-server logs may record your IP address as with any download.

Release-notes email (optional)

If you sign up for release notes on acetate.lol, the email address you enter is stored by our email provider Resend and used only to email you when a new version of Acetate ships. Every email has an unsubscribe link, we never share or sell your address, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete it at any time.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold (an email you gave us, a feedback or crash submission) by emailing hello@acetate.lol. For purchase data held by Polar, contact Polar directly. We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was given.
