End User License Agreement

Last updated: July 2026

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and Scott Young ("we", "us"), the developer of Acetate ("the Software"). By downloading, installing, or using the Software you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

1. License grant

On purchase of a license, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software for your own music production, on up to three (3) devices you own or control. A free trial permits one (1) master export before a license is required.

2. What you may not do

You may not resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute the Software or your license key; share your license key publicly; reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to defeat the licensing or trial mechanism except where such restriction is prohibited by law; or remove proprietary notices.

3. Price and updates

Acetate is a one-time purchase of USD $63 for a lifetime license to the current major version, including updates within that version. Payments are processed by our reseller Polar (the merchant of record); your purchase is also subject to Polar's terms at checkout.

4. Refunds

We offer a 14-day refund, no questions asked. See our Refund Policy for how to request one.

5. Ownership

The Software is licensed, not sold. All intellectual property rights in the Software remain with Scott Young. Masters you create with the Software are entirely yours; we claim no rights over your audio.

6. Open-source components

The Software includes third-party open-source components, each under its own license. A list of these components and their notices is available in the app and on request at hello@acetate.lol.

7. Local processing; no warranty

Audio processing runs entirely on your machine; your audio files are never uploaded to us or any third party. The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be error-free or that any master it produces is fit for a particular purpose. You are responsible for reviewing masters before release.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the Software is limited to the amount you paid for your license. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of data or lost profits.

9. Termination

This license terminates automatically if you breach these terms. On termination you must stop using the Software. Sections 5, 7, and 8 survive termination.

10. Governing law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
